DERRICK + TABITHA
HISTORIC POTTER FARM | BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY
Ok, it’s official. We are now accepting any and all weddings in Kentucky! Seriously. Tabitha & Derrick’s Bowling Green wedding was an absolute dream and we had the best time with them & their wedding party! When we photographed their engagement session at WKU they spoke about their vision for their wedding day style. One of the most important parts they wanted to include were elements of their Kentucky home and we were really looking forward to seeing all of the pieces come together. We definitely weren’t disappointed! All of the details were a dream, the mix of the florals, books, & liquor bottles was the perfect combination for their wedding day style.
The ladies got ready in the bridal Cottage at Potter Farm. It was without a doubt one of our all time favorite getting ready spaces we have ever been in! Absolutely charming inside & out! There was plenty of space for all of the girls, a full size kitchen to store all of the florals, as well as snacks and drinks. Because the couple is surrounded by so much raw talent the girls even had custom shirts for the event. We’re obsessed! How awesome of an idea are these? Of course, when we stepped outside for some cute bridal prep photos, the girls also brought a bottle of champagne. Love the photos we captured of Tabitha popping the cork!
Tabitha’s Matron of Honor, Shanda, had been her best friend for most of her life. And the rest of the ladies standing beside her were all her Kappa Delta sisters! Derrick and Tabitha both attended Western Kentucky University and were both involved in their schools Greek system. Tabitha joined KD and Derrick pledged Pi Kappa Alpha. Several of his groomsmen were also Pikes! We love seeing how our couples select their wedding party from those closest to them, from family, childhood friends, & college friends.
Derrick surprised Tabitha with his proposal during their mini Christmas card photoshoot. It was a chilly day and Tabitha was freezing and ready to head for the car. However, when she turned back around she found Derrick on one knee. To say she was completely surprised would be an understatement! We adore how sweet their proposal was! Derrick’s mom was even lucky enough to photograph the meaningful moment.
During their ceremony, Derrick & Tabitha placed letters & a bottle of wine inside a custom wooden box that they found on Etsy, and locked it closed during the ceremony. The hope is that they never need to open that box, but instead simply have it placed in a prominent spot within their home as a reminder of the vows they took on their wedding day. However; if they ever reached a point in their marriage where they needed a reminder of who they were now and why they chose to commit, that will be the time that they open the box and read the letters they wrote to each other on their wedding day, drink their wine, and reconnect with the core of their love and why they chose one another. This is such a wonderful idea and such a neat twist on the more traditional ceremonies. We love that with this ceremony they acknowledge that marriage can be hard and that it is something you have to work at.
As the night kicked off, their reception included several rounds of impressive karaoke and so pretty epic dance moves. Since they chose to have a first look, we were able to do almost all of their photos before the ceremony which allowed them to spend more time with their friends and family during the reception. Plus, they were able to get photos of the two of them during the daytime, at sunset, & even at night!
If you adored their Kentucky themed wedding, you’ll definitely adore their Western Kentucky University engagement session at WKU!!
