FEATURE FRIDAY | ONCE UPON A TIME

Welcome to another installment of Feature Friday, in which we share with you some of our favorite Movies & TV shows!  This week: Once Upon A Time. When we first were dating one of the things we bonded over was chatting about some of our favorite shows.  We’ve found that is the same for a lot of our couples too!  So, every now and then, we will showcase a different movie or show and share some of the reasons why we recommend it and the things that we really like about it.  So be sure to tune in, check out some of our favorites, and maybe even turn it into a date night with your fiance!  Make dinner or order in and tune in to watch one of our favorites.

It’s no secret that Disney runs deep in our house.  We both grew up on the movies, shows, and music and – of course – we met in the break room of Disney’s Hollywood StudiosGreat Movie Ride.  So when ABC launched a weekly drama series that took the familiar tales we grew up on and turn them on their ears, we were in.

Admittedly, the series is not always great.  There have been some storylines that have dragged on too long (Frozen) or were too twisty for twisty’s sake (Peter Pan as a villain?  Come on, now).  But when the series focuses on its core characters – Snow White and her Prince Charming, their adult daughter (don’t ask) Emma, her son Henry, Henry’s adopted mother (and former Evil Queen) Regina, Regina’s on-again off-again love Robin Hood, the “Dark One” Rumpelstiltskin, and Belle (the Beauty to Rumpel’s Beast) – it can be one of the most interesting shows on the air.

“Once” has touched upon pretty much every major fairy tale you can think of, but sometimes it ramps things up by bringing in characters from other classic literature (Frankenstein, Oz, and Arthurian legends have all played a part), and the ways they’re woven into the plots are always fun to see.

It’s never going to be the best show on TV or clean up at awards time, but if you like seeing old stories presented in new ways or just really like watching attractive people fight over a book, Once Upon A Time is worth a look.  Your nostalgia will thank you.
