FEATURE FRIDAY | GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
Welcome to another installment of Feature Friday, in which we share with you some of our favorite Movies & TV shows! When we were first dating, one of the things we bonded over was chatting about some of our favorite shows. We’ve found that it’s the same for a lot of our couples, too! So, every now and then, we will showcase a different movie or show and share some of the reasons why we recommend it and the things that we really like about it. So be sure to tune in, check out some of our favorites, and maybe even turn it into a date night with your fiance! Make dinner or order in and tune in to watch one of our favorites!
This week: Guardians of the Galaxy
Let’s just get the obvious statement out of the way. Yes, the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack is maybe the best compilation-style movie soundtrack ever. Pat grew up on old Motown and British Invasion pop, so a movie that populates its soundtrack with The Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, Five Stairsteps, and David Bowie already has a lot going for it. Throw in “Hooked on a Feeling,” “Spirit in the Sky,” and “Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” and you’ve got a masterpiece.
But beyond that, Guardians of the Galaxy is just about the most fun you can have in a movie theater watching a child abducted by aliens, the daughter of a Mad Titan intent on murdering half of all sentient life, an alien whose family was massacred by fanatics, a raccoon who was the victim of unethical genetic modification, and a talking tree take on the same fanatic that killed the third dude’s wife and daughter that is also working with the aforementioned Mad Titan.
Okay, so the Guardians’ backstory is super dark. But the movie itself is a blast. It’s funny, it’s infinitely quotable (always a big plus for us), the action sequences are phenomenal, and – while Ronan may not be the most compelling villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – the spectre of Thanos looms above it all, which makes the first true outlier in the MCU fit in perfectly with the rest of the world.
