photos as iconic as your collegiate
You arrived at Vanderbilt with a trunk full of nerves, and a heart filled with dreams. Somewhere between the Peabody steps, verbosely convoluted syllabi, game days at Dudley Field, sorority formals and declaring a major, you found friends who became family.

Together, you made a life out of all the little moments.
Every spoonful of Jeni’s, cup of Fido, & feral SATCO run.
You’ve fully embraced every moment of Commodore life!

frequently asked questions
I've photographed Vanderbilt seniors throughout campus, using locations that give you a mix of classic Vanderbilt architecture, campus landmarks, and more personal spots. Depending on the number of locations included in your chosen session and the current campus access/location guidelines, we may photograph at Wyatt Center, Peabody, Kirkland Hall, or Zeppos Tower. I'm open to ideas and suggestions! Please be aware that some facilities may require you to gain permission from the university, such as the football stadium.
Where do you take senior and graduation photos at Vanderbilt?
I recommend booking your Vanderbilt senior or graduation photos as early as possible, especially if you want a specific date, time of day, or campus location. Spring graduation dates can fill quickly because you're competing with an entire graduating class for a relatively small number of ideal photography dates and times.
Choose the Vanderbilt graduation photography experience that fits you, select an available date, and reserve your session online with a $50 retainer. Once your retainer is paid, your date is officially reserved and you'll receive a senior style guide and confirmation. Payment plans are available. The remaining balance is due before your session begins.
How and when should I book my Vanderbilt graduation photos?
Absolutely! I photograph Vanderbilt graduates at every level, including undergraduate seniors, master's graduates, and PhD graduates. Graduation session can be tailored to your program, degree, academic regalia, and the parts of your Vanderbilt experience you want to remember.
Do you photograph Vanderbilt master's and PhD graduates?
For Vanderbilt senior photos, I recommend bringing outfits that feel like you while giving us some variety in your gallery. The number of outfits you can bring is reflected in your package choice. Most seniors wear the outfit they plan to wear on grad day, a casual look including a Vanderbilt shirt, a formal dress for an extra flare of drama, business professional attire for a LinkedIn headshot, or attire that reflects their collegiate experience: Greek life, athletics, band, etc.
Don’t forget to bring your academic cords, stoles, sports gear, awards, and any other regalia—like a class ring!
What should I wear for my Vanderbilt senior photos? Do Cap & Gowns count as an outfit?
Hell yeah, you can! Your partner should be the one surprised though—not me. Make sure I’m in on the plan, so we don’t miss the big moment!
Can I propose during the photoshoot?
A $50 retainer saves your senior session on Ivory Door's calendar. There is a payment plan option. The balance is due by the start of your photoshoot.
How does payment work?
Absolutely! Group sessions aren't just one giant group photo. While the session focuses on groupings, I typically photograph each senior individually before moving into smaller groups, couples/friend photos, and everyone together.
Do we get individual photos during a group session?
Absolutely! You are welcome to print your photos wherever and however you want. The files you receive are high resolution. Please be aware that I only guarantee color quality when printing from my professional lab.
can I print our own photos?
Each graduation photography package includes a specific number of edited images for you to choose from your proofing gallery. You'll select your favorites at your own pace, and if narrowing them down proves impossible—as it frequently does—you can purchase additional images for less than the cost of lunch!
So, if you want to add 1, 2, or 30 more—you can totally do that! I'll explain how to when you receive your proofing gallery.
How many photos will I receive, and can I purchase more?
Absolutely! Champagne, confetti, and balloons are all fun! Champagne not your thing? Spray Alani, Diet Coke, or crack open a beer!
I recommend bringing your cords, stoles, and all the other swag! Medical degree? Pack your Stethoscope! In a sorority or fraternity? Rock your letters! Involved in a sport or a part of the band? Bring your basketball & clarinet! Law? Bring your law books! Pets?
So long as the university doesn't mind you bringing your prop on campus, I don't either! Got something unusual you're considering? Just ask!
For larger props such as planes and cars, you must book the Legendary Session.

WHERE BRIGHT COLORS AND JOYFUL SOULS COLLIDE
Great photos are important. But knowing you're in good hands is what makes the experience. I strive to make my clients feel genuinely like themselves. From posing, to true to the eye colors, I help you feel natural & provide concierge-level service.
the experience
Photography should be fun—not another thing to stress about. From choosing outfits with my Senior Style Guide to knowing what to do once you step in front of the camera, I'll guide you through it all. You can relax, enjoy the moment, and trust that I've got you.
THE EXPERTISE
I've spent 15+ years learning how to work with people, light, and locations to create photographs that look effortless. I know what works, what doesn't, and how to make the most of the space we're in.
the light
Great portraits start with good light. I know how to work with natural light, mixed lighting, and off-camera flash to create beautiful, dynamic images wherever your session takes us. We'll create everything from soft, colorful portraits to dramatic sunset images.
THE GUIDANCE
You don't need to know how to pose. That's my job. I'll direct you through flattering poses, natural movement, and all the little adjustments that make a difference—so you never have to wonder what you're supposed to do next.
THE CHOICE
Your gallery isn't a take-it-or-leave-it situation. You'll get to see your photographs and choose the images you love most—because you're the one who should decide which moments make the cut.
THE TURNAROUND
You shouldn't have to wait months to see your senior photos. I'll get your gallery back to you quickly, before your diploma even arrives and while the excitement of graduation is still fresh.
retouching
The little things shouldn't steal the spotlight.
You put a lot of thought into where you took these photos, what you wore, and how you wanted to remember this season of your life. The last thing we want is for a random trash can, distracting sign, stray person, or unfortunate patch of grass to become part of the memory.
Every final image is professionally retouched to clean up the things that distract from the story of the photograph—while keeping the moment itself completely intact.
You did the work. You lived the moment. We'll take care of the details.

I'm Mahlia
I believe in creating a space where everyone feels welcome, celebrated, and completely themselves.
As a Vanderbilt college graduation photographer, I’m here to make sure you leave campus with more than just a diploma—you’ll leave with photos that capture this season of your life and an experience you’ll actually enjoy. My studio exclusively photographs college seniors, so this isn’t something I squeeze in between weddings and family sessions. Celebrating you is what we do.
A note to the grad parents...
Yes, you're welcome to join us for your Vanderbilt grad's senior photos. You've watched them work, grow, struggle, celebrate, and somehow make it all the way to this moment—and now you get to be ridiculously proud of them.
These photos aren't just for Instagram. They're the images you'll want on your walls, in an album, and tucked away for the years when you can't quite believe how quickly this chapter went by. And if it's been four years (or more!) since you've updated the portrait on your wall... I'd say you're overdue for a new one.
College Graduation Photographer in Nashville, Tennessee
Retire the high school senior picture. Your parents' walls deserve a portrait of the person you are now—not the seventeen-year-old you once were.
wall art
Because “I graduated!” deserves better than a group text. Give everyone who helped you get here a beautiful announcement they’ll actually want to stick on the fridge.
GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENTS
A tangible way to remember the people, places, and ridiculous amount of caffeine that got you here. Perfect thank you gift for family!

For your dorm room now, your first apartment later, and your parents' house forever.
