Our couples often ask us for our opinions on hiring a second photographer or a second videographer. Depending on the size of your guest list and the amount of time built into your timeline this may be something you want to consider. If you have a guest list of over 150 we highly recommend adding additional coverage. For more intimate weddings you may want to add a second videographer to capture personal messages of love from your guests.
1. a second prospective
Every photographer sees something different when they look through their lens. We all have a different style and approach when it comes to shooting so while one photographer make look through and shoot an artsy close up the second photographer may look at the exact same setting and instead shoot a wide picturesque landscape photo.
2. catch more of the little moments
Realistically, it’s not physically possible for a person to not have their back turned to something. When kneeling down capturing a precious photo of the flower girl and ring bearer playing tic tac toe, your back is to the hilarious moment the groomsmen decide to start break dancing. A second photographer can be facing away from the children but see the dance party begin and capture that moment. As a photographer I do my best to capture everything but having a second photographer there is always a reassurance to our couples that they are truly going to have as many moments captured as possible
3. they are there to help too
At our last wedding we had a second photographer and 2 additional videographers. It was amazing and our couple has so much documentation of the day. In the morning while we were with the ladies as they were getting ready, one of the tiny-tots knocked over the brides mimosa with her toy. Our second photographer cleaned up the mess so everyone else could continue getting ready and having fun – and we were still capturing photo & video!
4. cocktail hour coverage
Traditionally after the ceremony are family photos, and depending on if you decide to do a first look, we also take wedding party photos and spend time with the bride and groom. During this time the guest often attend a cocktail hour or appetizers to keep them occupied and having fun before dinner begins. While we are with the family taking photos we send our second shooters out to mingle with the guests. They often capture fun interactions, get group shots, and details of the food and drinks. Even if you can’t be in the both places you will still have the photos to enjoy your guests experience too.
5. videographer second shooters
Our second videographers often capture video messages from your guests with congratulatory wishes and marriage advice or fond memories they share of the bride and groom. We also get the second videographer to capture sweet messages from the wedding party as well. We always get such an excited response from our couples about this idea and they often add on more coverage and are anxious to hear the messages from their friends and family.
