DO BRIDAL DETAILS MATTER ON A WEDDING DAY

If you’ve been following us you know how much we love details – especially me, Mahlia. I love arriving on a wedding day and being able to pour over all of the little details that my bride has chosen to showcase her day and her style. I smile when I see her shoes and think wow, this are the perfect flats to reflect her personality. I get a bit misty eyed listening to her or her mother tell me about the history of certain family heirlooms. It’s just the absolute perfect way to start our wedding day with you! I enjoy wedding bridal details so much that I created my bridal detail inspiration list that I share with my couples before their wedding – don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

So… why do we feel wedding details are so important?
1. THEY TELL YOU STORY

It’s not all about those Pinterest perfect designs – although let’s face it, those are totally dreamy too! They tell the history of your family through your grandmothers pearls or fathers ring. Your first date together is called back through a memory from the signature perfume that you still wear or the food truck you first shared a meal at. Your favorite things can be seen in your grooms Star Wars cufflinks or the Vols socks. It’s the little details that reflect you two that tell your story!

2. THEY INSPIRE FUTURE BRIDES

What was one of the first things you did after getting engaged? Okay, after you shouted it to the rooftops & hopefully popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate. You likely started researching. A few Google searches for venues, wedding photographers, event planners and after that got tiresome you probably hopped onto Pinterest to start day dreaming about the really fun stuff. What colors you were going to have, the cut of your bridesmaid dresses, and the little things that are fun and make a wedding unique. What you probably don’t realize at the time of your planning is that in the years to come future brides are going to be looking at your wedding design for inspiration for their own weddings.

3. WEDDING PUBLICATION

One of the things that goes hand in hand with inspiring other brides is the way in which they find your wedding and access the information. If you are interested in having your wedding featured in either an online publication or even a print magazine one of the most important factors is to have a lot of unique wedding and bridal details… and an awesome photographer doesn’t hurt, haha!

4. YOUR CHILDREN

Someday your daughter may want to recreate your wedding veil for her own wedding. The more details and photos that she has to see the more closely she can have that veil designed and made to reflect your own. Perhaps your son will decide that he wants to wear a bow-tie instead of a traditional tie because that’s what you wore. He’ll notice the polka dotted pattern in your portraits. But when he sees your details photos of your tie he’ll notice a subtle whale pattern and not polka-dots like he originally saw. Which leads him to decided to buy whale socks as a tribute to your wedding day style.

From time to time we have couples ask if the bridal details matter or if I can skip that part of the wedding day. That sort of makes my soul cry out a little because I just love bridal details so much and they do matter. Your fiances cologne, your flowers, rings, and sorority pin are all unique to your wedding day and they do matter! Not so much the quantity but the thought and importance of the little things. Honestly, this is one of my favorite parts of a wedding day because I feel like it allows me to be creative and sets the tone for the way I approach your wedding day photos.

Now, of course, I understand that some couples feel that they don’t really need the details photos. And while that is true… I can’t imagine not photographing those special elements for you. In 20 years will you still have your wedding garter? Will you be able to recall what flowers were in your bouquet? If you lose your original wedding band while traveling will you be able to remember that first ring? So, no, you don’t have to have those photos but later in life you will want those photos. While I am a photographer I’m also a keeper of memories of sorts, and I want to save those precious details for you to cherish twice as much in your later years.
