PANAMA CANAL pt. 2 – the canal
PERSONAL | TRAVEL

This time in 2014 we had the privilege to go on a family vacation with Mahlia’s family to the Panama Canal. We’re feeling a bit nostalgic and wanted to share some of our favorite moments with y’all. We boarded a Princess Cruise in Florida and sailed to Panama, Columbia, Aruba, Jamaica, & Costa Rica for 11 nights.

The sheer genius behind the design is amazing in and of itself; but when you take into consideration the time when the Canal was created it makes it almost mind boggling. And now, 100 years later, mankind is catapulting the Canal into the new century by creating an entirely new series of locks. Being able to go through the Panama Canal while they are constructing the addition is truly a once in a lifetime experience. Seeing the giant doors above the water waiting to be placed in their new location to open traffic and start a new chapter in the historical creation was awe-inspiring.Cruise_210Cruise_207Cruise_205Cruise_204Cruise_178Cruise_175

Love this shot!!
Cruise_217We love being able to share these fun shots from our travels with ya’ll! Cruise_203Cruise_202Cruise_200Cruise_199Cruise_177These photos perfectly captures the morning sunrise on the Canal. We were not only in awe of the creation itself but also the breathtaking colors that danced through the sky. The fog rolling through the rainforest, the rays hitting the peaks, the water glistening under the beauty of it all. Even with all of the busy traffic and workers around it was incredibly peaceful.

When the ship passes through the first set of locks the reengage the bridge allowing for traffic to pass through the middle of the canal as the ships raise to the next set of locks. Incredible. The tiny vehicles and pedestrians juxtaposed against the massive size of the canal and the incredible depth of the water towering above was poetic.

It was a truly unique experience that few had the opportunity to be a part of for this little bit of history.Cruise_031Cruise_030Cruise_015Cruise_022
The rainforest held up to its name and began to sprinkle on us part way through the Gatun Locks.
